Cape Blanco

Today I went to Cape Blanco State Park in Port Orford, Oregon. It's about 20-25 minutes away from where I live. It has campgrounds, beach access, and a historic (still working) lighthouse and keeper house (also historic). I drove around the park first just to see what it looked like. I want to go camping there! The campground looks amazing! The trees are sooo beautiful here. I think I'm obsessed with the Sitka Spruces and Douglas Firs. They are so pretty and mystical in a way. Love it. Today it got up to 75 degrees! Yes, that's the highest it has been since I've been here. Crazy, huh?! I LOVE THE WEATHER HERE! Some people think I'm crazy. I know most "normal" people crave hot sunny weather. I like the sun alright. I have no beef with the sun really. But, I do have beef with heat which is a side affect from the sun. I also have SERIOUS beef with the humidity we deal with on top of the heat in the south. You put those two together and its like an MMA match. Not pretty. So, yeah, I like the cool, mild weather. I would take it over our southern weather ALL DAY EVERYDAY! And yes, I do feel the need to use all caps. haha. I also like the windy weather here. I LOVE THE FOG! Especially now that I'm not in the field, it doesn't affect my work. It makes the forests so mysterious and beautiful. You want to come here now, don't you? Yeah I knew I convinced ya. Hey, I'm sitting here with the windows open, 57 degrees, nice and breezy. haha...don't hate me for saying that. I realize I will receive the wrath when I return home to the smoldering south.

Okay, back to where I was....I took the lighthouse tour. Let me see if I can remember the cool things they told me about it...It is the oldest working lighthouse in Oregon, it isn't the tallest lighthouse, but its at the highest elevation than any other lighthouse in Oregon, its at the most western point in the state of Oregon, it had the longest record of the same lighthouse keeper (42 years-John Langlois---there's a town named after him that has a market that is famous for their hot dogs), it is the first lighthouse to have a female lighthouse keeper, um..I think that's all I can remember. Two of the volunteers working there were a couple (in their 70's) from Alabama. They don't like the weather here. I think they are crazy, and they think I'm crazy. We got along. LOL.

I then walked a small trail to the headland next to the lighthouse, and that was it. It was SOO foggy and windy, and cold. And while, I love that weather. It wasn't taking great pictures, plus I got hungry. So, where did I go? I went to the Langlois market to get a famous hot dog....ahem...all beef. It typically comes with pickles and their homemade mustard. So, I got it just like that. Their mustard has a very slight kick to it, but not enough to notice really. Pickles were a good touch, but I'll say this...these hot dogs would be good all by themselves. Great flavor. I can see why everyone has told me to go there, and yeah I'm just now going there. Yes, I am totally aware of how lame I am. Okay, I think that covers it...here are some photos for you to enjoy...

Lens and windows of the lighthouse

This is the view outside one of the windows...yeah I picked a great day to take ocean pics...haha

The light inside the lens, I think they said it is 1000 watt.
This lens was made in Paris...here's proof.:)

 Yep, still foggy!
 The beach

Do you think its windy? haha...I could barely open my eyes for the shot.

Lighthouse keepers house back in the day..I didn't go inside because they were about to close.
Look at these awesome tree-climbing trees! Let's go be "Peas and Carrots" on them!

 It's beautiful here.
