Portland and Elk!

SUNDAY and MONDAY, AUGUST 12 & 13, 2012

Sunday, I drove up to Portland to pick my mom up from the airport. She flew out to visit me, Oregon, and to help me drive home from Oregon. On the way to Portland, I drove a different route than I usually take, and came across an unexpected scenic view....Elk! There is an Elk preserve off of a highway and you can just pull off and watch them, take pics for as long as you want. It was pretty neat. So, I decided on the drive home, I was going to show mom the Elk preserve. On Sunday, we made it to the Portland market right as they were closing, but managed to still see some vendors, and make a few purchases. We ate dinner at a very yummy Irish restaurant, then stayed overnight in Portland. Monday morning, we went to Voodoo Donuts (of course), and once again...sugar overload was delicious. Mom got the maple bacon donut that they are famous for. I tried it, and I swear it tasted like a pancake with bacon. Yummy! We then drove to Newport, so that I could say my good-byes, and she could meet my bosses. We ate lunch at a neat little cafe in Newport, then drove on to Bandon for the night.

We caught site of two fox at the Elk Preserve.

You can just barely see the male's rack behind the others.

 It was a beautiful day!

Mom shopping at the Portland market.
 Pretty fountain
 Voodoo Donuts
Thought this was a neat mural, and its the truth. The bike lanes in this city are as big as a car lane! Not kidding, btw.
Kell's, the Irish restaurant we ate dinner at.
Powell's Book Store. THE COOLEST BOOK STORE ON THE PLANET!
 Our Voodoo donuts.
The coast off of Yachats, OR. The fog was heavy of course.
These weird statues are in a town called,  Gardiner, and I finally got pictures of them. This guy looks like he is on his way for a Valentines Day date. He also looks like Conway Twitty in my opinion.
This statue just creeps me out. I thought it was a woman, but my mom and I started questioning that, but either way, why is this person so scary looking running with books? lol
A more up close pic. Isn't it creepy??
It's hard to see, but there is also a statue on top of the building.
The town sign showing the history.
