Celtic Festival and Highland Games

Today (Saturday the 9th), I decided to drive back up to Newport to go to the Celtic Festival. Why not? I have nothing else going on. Although, I did get an offer to go clam digging, then attend an organic farm's potluck. Sounds fun and all, but I'd rather go see a festival where people dress up, sing, dance, eat, drink, and compete against one another. Who wouldn't? It was fun. It probably would have been more fun if someone was with me. But, I liked seeing all the dogs dressed up in plaid, and smelling all the yummy food. My favorite, other than muscular men in kilts throwing things, was the dancers. The dances they performed were really cool, and looked like soo much fun. I finally was able to find something to entertain myself on my day off....even if it was 118 miles away from where I live. There is absolutely nothing to do in Bandon, nothing. lol. Walk the beach, that's it. Here are some pics from my day:

This band sang their songs in French, which I thought was weird, but apparently they hail from a Celtic french area of Brittany.
I don't know what this event was called, but that big bean bag looking thing was 20 lbs, and they had to lift up over that pole. That pole was at 25 ft.

Even the judge/ref wears a kilt
 Adjusting the height
I don't know what this event was called either, but same concept. Throw the heavy thing over your back over the pole. Look at this guy's "kilt hose" aka socks...they say BEER on them...haha

Wow...look how tall they guy second from the left is...seriously.
Spinning around with whatever that thing is called.
Look in the trees above the guy....you will see it.
 This guy is getting ready
 spinning
 Meat pies....mmm...mystery meat pies...haha
Bagpipes! Can't have a Celtic festival without bagpipes.
 Dancers......dancing..:-)

Oh.....and Scottish cows? I don't know what they are...but they moo like cows. You would think they would have a sign outside of their pen to tell you exactly what they are...anywho...they are kind of cute....maybe its the extra hair that makes them look furry?
