Crabbing!

So, this past week, there were TONS of people at the bunkhouse staying. There were so many people here on Tuesday night, that some people had to camp out in tents in the yard. Yeah. And I still managed to keep my own room, and turns out, didn't have to share it with anyone. Whew. Privacy and comfort intact. lol. But, the group of 4 people that stayed from Tuesday to Thursday were great. I really enjoyed them, and all of us hit it off really well. So much so, they invited me to go crabbing with them on Wednesday night after we were all done with work. I've never been crabbing. I didn't know quite what to expect. IT WAS A BLAST! Okay, I realize this is such an old notion, but catching or picking food that you later to get to eat is such a gratifying thing. We crabbed (I don't even know if that term even exists) for about 4 hours. They let me pull the rings up from the bottom of the ocean, which is very exhilarating and gets your adrenaline going. These pots/rings are heavy, especially when there are crabs in there. And you have to pull the rope that the rings/pots are attached to fast so they crabs can't escape. Anyway, we caught 5 crabs, one for each of us. We all then went home, cooked up crab, pasta, and kale. Okay, I have something to say...kale is gross raw. I don't care what anyone says, its just toooooo bitter raw. They cooked it up with onions and a vinegar sauce, but didn't wilt the kale down. After it was cooked, I would totally eat kale again. I know, don't have a heart attack. haha. Just don't ask me to eat it raw, because I just won't. I devoured my crab. I had to learn how to eat a whole crab. I've only just eaten legs. I learned how to "deshell" and clean it. Yummo! I would crab everyday if I could. And I made some good friends at the same time, so can't beat that!

Dungeness crab in a ring we just pulled out of the ocean. Most crabs are too small or female. The only crabs you can keep are males, and they have to be of a certain size. The limit per day is 12.
Sean throwing the ring back out (He didn't know who Hanson is....lol 19 year olds! haha), John, Brooke (She is awesome!), and Ben (he is hilarious!) all "supervising"
