Today was a sort of odd day. We didn't really get started until after noon. I finished up some netting stuff while my boss slept in until 12:15 p.m.! Wow. He didn't go to sleep until 5 a.m. so we all hung around waiting on him to wake up. It was kind of hilarious actually. Until I realized I could've been updating my blog I'm behind on, doing laundry, making calls, something. Owell. I love structure way too much, and need to understand that I won't get it until I go to Bandon. And I'm just assuming that right now. I don't even know that for sure. I made yet more trips to Home Depot, Walmart, and a sporting good store today for more supplies for the nets and such. I made yet, more nets...ahh these nets..I'm gonna have nightmares about them for weeks to come. We went out to only try to trap one owl, and to dig up a burrow that needed a makeover. We put wire mesh underneath the chamber to prevent gophers from plugging their burrow, put new tubing in, and also a new pail. So, I dubbed us the Extreme Burrow Makeover crew. Ha! I have provided pictures to give you a better idea of what all of this looks like. We didn't catch the male, but we caught the female...we already caught her this weekend, so that didn't help. We ended the night early since Jeff is headed back to his town tomorrow morning. It felt weird to not have held an owl. Everyday since Friday I've held an at least one owl, if not more. So, I think I had some withdrawals today...haha! On a side, in almost every pic I'm wearing my Tennessee Tech hoodie. It's my favorite, I love to wear it. Even though it stands the chance of getting good and dirty here, I still love to wear it. So, it's not the same day in every pic. I just wear the hoodie everyday..lol. I'm sure I didn't have to explain that, but I did anyways. :-)

Jeff and DJ redigging the nest chamber area
DJ digging the tunnel out, Jeff in the nest chamber, Max looking on
the old pipe we took out of the tunnel
the new pipe we put in
the wire mesh for the bottom under the dirt of the chamber
this is what the nest chamber looks like out of the ground and without dirt
hard at work in the chamber
more digging
filling it up with dirt after putting the chamber back in
almost completely filled in
So, we upgraded these digs so the owls will nest here. Movin on up! I did help with the digging and such, but during my breaks (we only had 2 shovels), I took pictures. :-)
Thanks for being patient with me, sorry it took me 3 days to get things updated. I wanted to point out that I added the follow button to my blog page, so you can officially do it if you haven't already done so. You don't have to, just wanted to give you the option. Also, we have to move out of these digs some time this week and into another place. Yeah, so I haven't even unpacked really because then I have to move again in a week or so. Lame, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. The worst part is I won't have internet there. So, depending on when they make us move will depend on how long I won't be able to blog. I will blog on my comp in Word, and then publish them when I get a chance to access internet. Just wanted to let you know that may happen in the next few days or so. When I know for sure, I will let you guys know. :-)
Wow! this was a major undertaking. Thanks for talking us through the process. I never would've thought this was happening out there. Neat.
