Sunday....I got laundry done...finally! Cleaned the inside of my car out, we said bye to the Prof, and then DJ did some work on some barrels to make the chambers for the burrows. We went into town and got some more supplies we were needing for work. Hermiston, Oregon is a strange town. It's the weirdest mix of people. There is a lot of irrigated agriculture in this area, so there are a lot of farm workers. But, the town has a Fudruckers. I always thought those restaurants were in touristy towns. This is not a touristy town. Now, I have been told that Bandon is. Apparently Bandon is famous for a golf course it has there. It was designed by a famous Scottish golfer, and they designed it to look like a golf course on the coast of Scotland. That's neat, but I don't play golf. I have also been told that the Oregon coast has been called the most beautiful coast in the country. Can't wait to see it. Any who....back to here and now. We ended up not going out to trap until 630 or 700. We only trapped 4 owls, but at this point, we have trapped 87 owls. That's right, I've helped trap 87 owls! What??? Crazy. I never knew I would even SEE 87 owls, let alone help catch that many. So, last night was such a great night....I am so excited to share this with you guys. We ended up getting a pair in the same box trap. So, DJ had me go in a get the male....scary...kind of. I was nervous. Not sure how to grab the little guy, was worried his talons would stick me, or that he would bite me if I grabbed him wrong. After hemming and hawing for a moment, I got him. Ha! I was soo excited. We took both of the owls back to the van to band her, and he wanted to teach me again how to measure and weigh the owl, but all by myself this time. My owl was already banded, so I weighed him-we weigh them by putting them in a breathable bag with a drawstring, lay them in a tub onto the scale. Then, we have to open the bag, reach in, and get them out....Wait...I have to reach my hand into a bag and grab this owl?? Oh man...I was once again nervous. I didn't want to do it wrong or let him fly out or anything like that. But, DJ was determined to get me to do it. After a couple of thoughts about how I should do it, I just opened it up and did it. Ta Da! Nice! Then DJ walked me through measuring the wing, tail, and tarsus. I was soo proud of this moment I had to capture it....

Me and this little guy....so happy and proud!
Oh and the fun doesn't stop there. DJ wanted me to hold both of the owls for a photo. So, sweet, I held two owls, one in each hand...This is madness I tell you, owl madness...haha...but, it's awesome!
The money shot! Oh my goodness this couple is sooo cute side by side...you can't deny this cuteness! I wanted to hold them forever, but alas...they don't want that. LOL
So, I had the greatest time learning how to do all of that. Maybe by the end of this week before I leave, I will be better at it. :) More pics for your enjoyment..
Little mousy in a cage...yeah he's thinking...I didn't sign up for this..
Me and the sunset :)
